As the semester goes on, we'll use this page to post the aggregated data collected by each group.  We'll also post results of your data analysis, as appropriate.

Week 1 - Introduction and overview

Write a paragraph describing your research interests. Try to formulate the questions you will address in your thesis or dissertation, and briefly outline the significance of those questions. Submit your statement to me electronically by Thursday, Sept. 8, at 5:00 p.m.

Week 7 - Data management

Create a Stata dataset for the comma-delimited Boas immigrant data. Using the codebook posted online, add variable and value labels to the Stata dataset. Submit your do-file by email by Wednesday, Oct. 19.

Week 8 - Univariate data analysis

The univariate data analysis exercise (PDF) is due by class on Friday, Oct. 28. Submit your answers and a cleaned do-file by email. You'll need the following data files (right-click to save to your computer):

Week 9 - Comparing means and proportions

This week's exercise (PDF) is due by class on Friday, Nov. 4. Submit by email a word-processor file (e.g., MS Word) with your answers, plus a cleaned do-file that shows the work you did in Stata.
